Small Group Feedback

I've shown my first draft to a small group of people and they all seem to have few problems with it. The main problem seems to be the lack of different locations and takes being too long. I was already going to fix this so I was expecting this and am going to film in more locations this weekend. I'm going to show the draft to more people to get feedback because there may be someone more critical and helpful.

Final Filming Plan

This weekend I intend to complete filming for Sam Tied Down. I am going to add the initial intended introduction where he starts outside his mum's house. I'm also going to film an interview where I'll talk about my feelings about the situation after he says 'My brother films it all.' I'm also going to add some more filler footage to run over the main footage. I may also include a confrontation scene where Sam will meet his 'rival' and he'll be really nice. I may not include this scene due to how long the project already is in the first draft. I may cut out some already existing footage or make a few drafts and show them to an audience to see which one is preferred. I'm also going to do the photoshoot for the newspaper advert so that I can create a few different newspaper adverts and see which one is the favourite.

Sam Tied Down Draft 1

I have created a first draft with the footage I have filmed. I am feeling doubtful about a couple of scenes such as the overlays and the comments scene. I feel like the overlays get too loud at points and take away from Sam's dialogue but it's traditional for documentaries. I feel like the comments scene isn't traditional for a documentary. I will change the scenes depending on feedback when I show it to an audience. This has only been able to be uploaded to google drive in 360p so I'm going to upload it to a different website such as youtube or vimeo in 1080p.

Colour Match

Due to the different angles some of the scenes looked drastically different
Below is a front angle scene which I wanted to match colours with.
In the screencap below I used colour match tool for the side angle scene. I matched it with the scene above and it has made the scene look more similar and more colourful.

Colour Balancing

The image below is some footage before I used the Final cut feature of colour balance.

This image is after I've applied a colour balance. I prefer this because it seems less gloomy and more bright.

Draft Feedback

I've shown two people some of my footage to see how they felt about how smooth some of the cuts were and whether they needed changing. Both people felt that the cuts were much too fast so I have changed them to look more fluent. This was during editing before I considered it a first draft.

Documentary Audio Enhancment

I have gone through all of my audio clips and used the 'Auto Enhance Audio' option on all of my clips which has removed lots of background noise and vastly improved the quality of the audio.

Tie Frame

I felt like the Tie Frame was an essential piece of the set because it shows that Sam's ties mean to him as a character and that he wants to keep them pristine. The fact that he has ties that he doesn't even wear shows that he has too many ties.

When me and Sam created the tie frame we placed the ties in a way which we felt was appropriate with  specific ties which have been seen on his youtube channel and some others.

When we placed the backing on the frame the ties didn't stay in place so we decided that we needed to use tape to keep the ties in place

We used a green tape to retain the shape of the tie and keep a similar length. We also decided to make them face different ways because it looked better and more organised.

This is how it looked when it was finished and all ties stayed secure.
We put the frame on the wall and although they stared to bow we felt like it would be appropriate due to his relatively untidy character.

Radio Advert Codes and Conventions

  • Radio Adverts will typically just feature some audio taken from the product
  • There is also typically music that relates to the advert but I don't know what I could use for this so I may end up using some unrelated music
  • Radio adverts are typically not longer than 30 seconds.
  • The details (Dates, Time, etc) need to be given in the advert

Logo Draft 2

I made a second logo draft because I wanted to experiment with a down arrow in the tie typography because the title is 'Sam Tied Down'. I feel like keeping the word 'Down' on the left side because it seems more clean. I can use this in my newspaper advert and in my documentary.

Filming Plan

I plan to film at least the first minute of my documentary opening over this weekend. This should include everything I have made as a draft and some more which I have planned on my storyboard and script. I will also do a photoshoot for my newspaper advert ancillary task. I will also probably make a rough draft for my radio advert script and try to find people who have an appropriate voice and are willing to be the interviewer for my radio advert.
